NEWS
The Washington Capitals have fired head coach Bruce Boudreau, replacing him with former player Dale Hunter.
Boudreau’s team got off to a hot start this year but has since faded, and criticism has mounted after each playoff failure. It seemed like only a matter of time until the team decided to go in another direction, although just one month into the season is a bit earlier than expected.
It will be interesting to see if the fiery, tough Hunter will be able to light a spark under one of the NHL’s most talented teams.
General manager George McPhee said the team’s play over the past week was the tipping point that forced the change.

If there ever was a team that rode the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in one season, allow us to introduce the 2009-10 Washington Capitals as Exhibit A.
The Caps surged to the top of the NHL after the calendar flipped from 2009 to 2010, riding a 15-game winning streak that saw Washington not lose from Jan. 13 through Feb. 10. That franchise record winning streak challenged the NHL record and helped the Caps win the President’s Trophy for most points in the NHL for the first time in franchise history. (Read More…)
